Among the STOLIT polystyrene board brands, from now on there is a long-awaited item – graphite foam Stolit Black. Styrofoam is the most popular material for insulation. Most often, it is used to insulate walls, but it is also well suited as thermal insulation of floors, roofs, floors, and plinths. Graphite expanded polystyrene is an improved derivative of traditional white foam, that is, expanded polystyrene (referred to as EPS). In white, thermal insulation is achieved due to the fact that more than 95% of its volume consists of air voids. In graphite, the thermal insulation coefficient is improved due to graphite admixtures.

Coefficient of thermal conductivity of graphite foam
The coefficient of thermal conductivity is the most important a parameter that objectively characterizes insulating materials. The lower the value of the coefficient of thermal conductivity (λ), the better the thermal insulation. The use of graphite in the production process of black polystyrene allows to produce slabs with coefficient λ – from 0.029 to 0.033 W/(mK). In standard ones white sheets to achieve such thermal insulation is impossible with technological ones considerations, therefore, it is necessary to use thicker layers of insulation.

Using graphite foam instead of white minimizes the insulating layer, optimizing its efficiency. And this is the biggest question stimulates the demand for it. However, in situations where the thickness of the insulation does not have such of great importance for the appearance of the building, is still used white foam.

How to glue graphite foam?
It happens that contractors refuse to work with graphite foam plastic Basing his decision on the fact that this material is difficult stick. So, graphite foam is really characterized by less adhesion when using traditional adhesive mixtures. Therefore, before applying on glue plate, its surface should be treated with abrasive paper or a wire brush. Another method of successfully gluing graphite polystyrene is to use stronger glues or designed for gluing this particular material.

Graphite foam and sunlight.
This type of foam, due to its dark color, can get very hot under the influence of intense sunlight.   This leads to high internal stresses in the plates, and as a result – to deformation of the plates. Gaps form between them, and freshly glued plates can even tear off the wall. Therefore, when performing insulation work, it is necessary to protect the facade from direct sunlight, for example, use a protective   mesh on scaffolding. During transportation and storage also  protect from direct sunlight.

“Sumish C” and “Sumish C+” TM “STOLIT”  ideally suitable for working with graphite foam. It is used both for gluing and for arranging a waterproof reinforcing layer in thermal insulation systems

Advantages of graphite polystyrene foam:

  • better thermal insulation properties with a smaller thermal insulation thickness, about 25% compared to traditional white EPS plates;
  • possibility of reducing the thermal insulation layer;
  • longer service life and increased resistance to ultraviolet radiation.
